Did a system recovery on compaq presario, windows xp what do i do now to get up to date.?

did sys. recovery and now have lost most everything. I have a quest bundle pak . free aol, but now my security doesnt run and cant seem to get it to fully download.what do i need to do, i downloaded mcefee but it wont fully load virus program. nothing seems to work right help
